I was scheduled for an open MRI on Thursday, July 11th. I chose Borgess for this procedure because I am claustrophobic and I was stressed about being confined in the MRI machine. I had suffered from vertigo in March and lost partial hearing in my ear so I needed to have my brain examined.
Once I was in the machine and the staff placed the face piece on me I realized I couldn’t do it and told them. Thy recommended a wet washcloth, which they provided, and gave me medicine to relax a little. I knew, however, that I still couldn’t go through with it because my anxiety level was so high. That’s when a nurse named Dorothy came in to assist me. She had also checked me in and told me the specifics of the procedure beforehand. She held my hand and talked me through the procedure. She stood right beside me the entire 45 minutes holding my hand and talking to me in a very soothing voice. Dorothy is to be commended for her excellent customer service and for being such a nice person. I told her I was sorry that she had to stand there in an awkward position for so long and she told me she was happy to do it. Long story short, I completed the MRI series of tests and can now continue with a treatment plan. If I ever have to get another MRI, Dorothy has given me the courage to proceed. Thank you Dorothy!
